Why your birth day changes the answer
What surprises many people is that the same plate can be excellent for one person yet a point of caution for another. The reason is the birth day. Thai astrology does not look at numbers in isolation but at whether the digits and letters on the plate suit the owner's horoscope. The day of the week you were born is therefore the key that can change the answer completely.
The system used to decide this is Taksa (ทักษา), a Thai astrological system that places consonants and digits into positions around a wheel that rotates according to the seven birth days. Auspicious positions give supportive numbers, while the Kalakini position gives digits and letters the texts advise avoiding. Once we know your birth day, we can say which digits support you and which you should be careful with.
Reading the Taksa positions: Sri, Det, Montri and Kalakini
Taksa has eight positions, each with its own meaning. The most sought-after is Sri (ศรี), which stands for wealth, charm and good things flowing in. Next is Det (เดช), which stands for power, prestige and recognition. Montri (มนตรี) stands for senior patrons and helpful people. These three are the supportive positions people look for when choosing a plate.
On the opposite side is Kalakini (กาลกิณี), the position the texts advise people born on that particular day to avoid, because it is believed to clash with the owner's horoscope. The key point is that Kalakini is personal. A digit that is Kalakini for someone born on one day may be ordinary or even good for someone born on another day, so no digit is Kalakini for everyone at once.
Because these positions rotate with the birth day, memorising which digits are Sri or Kalakini for each day is tricky. This site therefore provides a birth-day selector. Once you choose a day, the system automatically works out the supportive digits and the digits to avoid for that day, and shows a clear warning bar if the plate you are viewing matches your Kalakini.
Born on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday
People born on Sunday are often advised to look for plates that feel bold and prestigious, in keeping with the Sun's personality of leadership. People born on Monday, which is linked to charm and communication, tend to suit plates that feel gentle and read smoothly. Both should check the Kalakini for their own day before concluding, because the digits to avoid differ between these two days.
People born on Tuesday carry the personality of Mars, strong in energy and action. Plates with rhythm and drive tend to suit them well, but they should take care that the whole plate is not overly forceful. The surest way for all three days is to select your birth day in our tool and see which set of supportive digits and digits to avoid applies, rather than guessing by feel.
Born on Wednesday or Thursday
In Thai astrology, Wednesday is split into Wednesday daytime and Wednesday night, because people born in the day and at night on a Wednesday are believed to have different horoscopes. Their supportive digits and Kalakini are therefore different sets. People born on Wednesday tend to suit plates linked to negotiation and trade, in keeping with Mercury's personality, but you need to be clear first whether you were born in the daytime or at night, or the result will be off.
People born on Thursday carry the personality of Jupiter, strong in knowledge, virtue and being someone others rely on. Plates that feel stable and trustworthy tend to suit them well. People born on Wednesday and Thursday alike should check the Kalakini for their day before deciding, because some plates with a high digit sum can run into problems when the letter series happens to match that day's Kalakini.
Born on Friday or Saturday
People born on Friday carry the personality of Venus, strong in charm, love and an appreciation of beauty. Plates that feel soft and charming tend to suit them well. People born on Saturday carry the personality of Saturn, strong in patience and steadiness. Plates that feel stable and suggest building a life through perseverance tend to match their horoscope.
As with every day, the digits to avoid for Friday and Saturday are different sets, so do not borrow advice meant for another day. The fastest and most accurate way is to select your birth day in our tool. The system works out the supportive digits and Kalakini for that day, and filters the list of plates that meet the conditions so you can go straight on to comparing prices.
Using your birth day to choose a plate in practice
The suggested order is: start by setting a budget, select the birth day of the person who will hold ownership or who will mainly drive, then let the system filter out plates with a good digit sum that do not clash with that day's Kalakini. Then choose by pattern and price. This removes unsuitable plates from the start and leaves a shortlist that is easy to decide on.
Two things to remember. First, if you are buying for a family member, agree from the start whose birth day you will use, so you do not get confused when comparing. Second, all of this is belief based on Thai traditional texts, not a guarantee of fate. Choose for peace of mind and a good fit, not out of fear that something bad will happen if you do not.

FAQ on this topic
What if I do not know whether I was born on Wednesday daytime or Wednesday night?
Check your time of birth against the daytime and night-time periods defined in the texts. If you are not sure of your birth time, we suggest looking at both and choosing a plate that clashes with neither Kalakini. That is the safest option. Our tool lets you select either Wednesday daytime or Wednesday night.
A plate has an excellent digit sum but clashes with my birth-day Kalakini. Should I take it?
If you give a lot of weight to Thai astrology, the texts advise avoiding it and finding a plate with a similar digit sum that does not clash with your Kalakini, because Kalakini is a personal caution that a high digit sum does not cancel out. But if you follow Chinese tradition more, this may not be an issue for you.
Should I use the driver's birth day or the car owner's?
The texts do not set a fixed rule, but you should be clear from the start whose birth day you will use. Most people use the person who holds ownership or the person who drives regularly. Just pick one and stick with it, so your comparisons do not get confused.
Is there an easy way to remember each day's supportive digits?
You can memorise them, but it is messy, because the Taksa positions rotate with the day and include both letters and digits. A more accurate way is to select your birth day in our tool. The system then shows the full set of supportive digits and digits to avoid for that day, and filters the list of plates that meet the conditions for you.
