This page is a price index, not a list of our products. We do not set prices ourselves and do not add anything to sellers' prices. What we do is collect the prices listed on the market and summarise them as a market median for each group, so you can see where the price you were offered sits.
Today's index is based on 11,669 plates listed with an actual price, taken from 23,308 listings we collected. Each plate always counts as one price, and plates listed as price on request are not included.
Every figure is an asking price, not an agreed price. The secondary plate market has no central exchange that publishes closing prices, so the market medians on this page are a reference point for negotiation, not a valuation.
Each budget tier has different numbers that offer good value. Tap through to see real plates in that price range.
Double, alternating and mirrored numbers, new series and upcountry plates that still have a good digit sum
This tier is about liquidity. Choose numbers that resell quickly, not the rarest ones.
See plates in this price rangeTriple digits and ascending runs in mid-range series, plus entry-level lucky word series
The balance point between an affordable price and the patterns buyers look for.
See plates in this price rangeTriple digits and four of a kind in popular series, plus the most popular lucky word series
The group that luxury car owners and business owners look for, with a wider resale market than the top tier.
See plates in this price rangeFour of a kind and single digits in premium series, especially the earliest letter series
Truly rare. Liquidity depends on buyers at the very top of the market, so be prepared to wait a long time for a buyer.
See plates in this price rangeBefore looking at the price, check whether the plate you like has all three
A standout number pattern: four of a kind, triple digits, a single digit or an ascending run. The easier it is to remember, the easier it is to resell.
A digit sum and meaning that rate well in Thai and Chinese numerology, which helps you find buyers who care about this sooner.
A popular letter series, especially the early double-letter series, on a Bangkok plate. The price can be several times that of an ordinary series.
Miss any one of them and both price and liquidity drop. Numbers that only have a good digit sum, without a standout pattern or in an unpopular series, are often harder to sell than you expect.
Ordered from the most important factor down
Patterns with few plates are priced higher than patterns with many, clearly and consistently. The table below is sorted from the highest market median to the lowest, and the gap between the top and bottom patterns is several times over, not tens of percent.
One- and two-digit plates are fixed in number within each series and cannot be added to, while four-digit numbers run into the tens of thousands. The next buyer remembers a short number without trying, which is what people buying expensive plates want.
The same number in an old two-letter series and in a new series can differ in price several times over, because old series are no longer issued, so the rarity is real. Bangkok plates and upcountry plates are also separate markets, so the table below splits the two for every pattern with enough data.
Plates won at auction have the province's background design and are limited in number per round, while plates registered through the normal queue are plain and keep being issued. If you are holding to resell, this is a difference in the product, not just in looks.
All prices are in baht and only count plates listed with an actual price, one count per plate. The market median is the median, not the average, because plates priced in the tens of millions do exist and would pull the average out of shape. The middle range is where the middle half of the group falls, with the top and bottom 25 percent removed.

Pattern rows count plates nationwide, and the two sub-rows below a row are the same group split by side. Patterns with data on only one side have no sub-rows, because the figures would repeat the row above. In this table, the market median for four of a kind is about 10 times that of paired xxyy. In every pattern with data on both sides (12 patterns), the Bangkok market median is higher than upcountry.
Find the row that matches the plate you are considering, then compare the price you were offered with that row's market median. If it is within the middle range, it is a normal price for the group. If it is higher, ask the seller what makes this plate different from the others in the same group. Most plates on the market right now are listed by a single seller, so the real comparison is against other similar plates, not against several sellers' prices for the same plate. To look at one plate at a time, use the plate price check page, which compares that plate with a narrower group than this table.

This section covers what most plate sellers do not write about
A plate is not an asset you can sell in a day. Plates priced in the tens of thousands up to the low hundreds of thousands of baht have a wider pool of buyers, while million-baht plates may need months or years to find a buyer who truly wants that number. Think about this before thinking about the price difference.
Transferring a plate involves government fees and paperwork, both when you buy in and when you sell out. Always deduct these before counting a price difference as profit. The details are in our article on costs.
The secondary plate market has no central exchange that publishes actual transaction prices, so the index on this page is built purely from sellers' asking prices. Nobody discloses the prices actually agreed, and we do not have that data. Dealers' asking prices already include their margin, and their buying prices are usually much lower. The Department of Land Transport's auction results are public data and are shown separately in the auction closing-price section below. Use the market median as a starting point for negotiation, not as a certified value.
A good digit sum makes a plate easier to sell when you meet a buyer who believes in numerology, but it does not raise the price by itself if the number is hard to remember. If you are buying to hold, start from rarity and treat the meaning as a bonus.
Every new series put up for auction adds new single-digit and same-digit numbers to the market, and auction revenue per round for special plates has fallen since the market was at its hottest in 2023. People who study this market therefore conclude that plates are better bought to use and collect than as a main investment asset, except for the very top numbers in rare series. This is not investment advice.
Not advice, just points you should know exist
This differs from a white plate obtained by reserving a number, which is tied to the car. An auctioned number must be paid in full within 30 days of the auction and registered to a car within 180 days of winning the auction, according to the published rights-transfer certificate form; check the announcement for that round again. In the meantime you can hold the right or sell it on, but the deadline does not restart when the right is transferred.
If you repeatedly buy and resell several plates with the intention of trading, the profit may count as assessable income, and if your revenue exceeds ฿1.8 million a year you may need to register for VAT.
This information shows that tax and legal issues exist. It is not tax or legal advice. Please check the latest fees and rules with the Department of Land Transport (hotline 1584) and the Revenue Department before deciding.
Single digits, four of a kind, triple digits and ascending runs are what buyers who hold look for first

The figures on this page are sellers' asking prices, not actual transaction prices, and they are not investment advice. License plates are slow to resell, and the price depends only on the next buyer.
