• We use the median (the middle value when prices are sorted from lowest to highest), not the average, because a handful of unusually expensive plates would skew an average. The median reflects the prices you actually see more closely.
• We count one price per plate. If several sellers list the same plate, the lowest price represents it, so a plate listed in many places does not pull the median in one direction.
• We compare only prices the sellers actually set. Price-on-request listings are left out of the statistics, and Department of Land Transport (DLT) auction closing prices (real transaction prices) are shown separately and never mixed with asking prices.
• This market median comes from the group Number 9999 Bangkok all series (series-adjusted), with 46 plates in our catalog. The system first compares plates with the same number in the same market, and only moves on to plates with the same number pattern when that number is not available. It calls a price cheap or expensive only when the group meets the minimum sample size. Otherwise it shows a price range for reference only.
• Series-adjusted. The group contains plates from several series, so the system first adjusts each plate's price to the equivalent of this plate's series before finding the median, because the series is the biggest price factor. The adjustment ratios come from real asking prices of the same number in different series. For example, in Bangkok, plates with the same number in a series without a leading digit (such as กข) are priced about twice as high on average as a series with a leading digit (such as 1กข). Plates that need a large adjustment get less weight, and adjusted figures are rounded to three significant digits because they are estimates.
• The market median is an asking price, so it sits nearer the top of the price range than the bottom. Agreed prices are usually lower because of negotiation and liquidity. Use this figure as a starting point for negotiation, not as the price you should pay.
